MY ARTS

Hello! I'm Mathel, 19 years old. This is my first time to make a blog! :) I made this blog for my subscribers in youtube.com and ratemydrawings.com.

How did I start drawing? I was about 2 years old when my mother gave me a pencil and paper. She asked me to write my name, instead, I drew lines forming a broom (walistingting), and with my mom using the broom. That's what my mother told me.
My father is also an artist. He draws landscapes in his province, like rice fields and human figures, mostly soldiers. He thought me basics, he's my first teacher in Arts! :D
When I was 5 years old, I use to draw people around me, and with their backgrounds including tables, curtains, chairs, etc.
When I was 12 years old, i started joining national drawing contest, sometimes I win.;p
It was all just for fun. I learned about cartooning and illustrations. I learned about paintings, oil paintings and watercolors.
When I was in Highschool, I use to join different tutorials. I managed to join poster making contests. I always receive awards at the end of the school year, "Artist Of The Year".
Now at college, I am taking up civil engineering. Still, arts is my passion. I met Mr. Badillo, my professor at FCL. He was a great artist! Knowing that he was left handed, I was amazed to see his works. I was inspired. He told me that he's not a professional at all, because he didn't take any course related to arts. He studied and practiced arts by himself. He showed me different portraits that he made, using different mediums. I was amazed! He can draw anything, human figures, animals, perspectives, greek faces even without references.
I told him that I also want to do portraits. "If you really want to draw perfect portraits, you must practice, you must draw at least 50 portraits of different faces." Mr. Badillo told me.
I practiced sketching, and tried to draw my family's portraits. Then some of my classmates beg me to draw some pictures for them, then in return, they pay me, some paid me P150.00, others for P100.00, and some of them just treated me for lunch! What I know is that they appreciate my works, and they love to give me pictures to draw. (To complete the 50 portraits, I draw for them).
Mr. Badillo introduced me to Mr. Palles, a national artist, and a professor and adviser of Arts club in our university. Together with my friend Rina, I joined the arts club. Mr. Badillo and Mr. Palles thought us basics of drawing. At first, we used ordinary pencils like mongol and any paper. Then eventually, Mr. Palles gave us a list of materials to buy. But my parents can't afford to support my hobby.
Mr. Palles still wants me to join different contests outside the school. So I save my money for art materials. (He wants me to use the best brands.)
Now, my hobby is to draw and post portraits on Youtube.
